Matt Damon Calls New Jason Bourne Director ‘Fantastic’ and Says He’s ‘Anxious’ to Learn More: ‘I Hope It’s Great and That We Can Do It’
In November, Universal Pictures made the noteworthy announcement that “All Quiet on the Western Front” director Edward Berger was in the process of developing a sixth Bourne film. Fan speculation ensued regarding the potential return of Matt Damon in the popular action remake. The Jason Bourne series, with Jeremy Renner and Matt Damon, has amassed a total of $1.6 billion in global box office revenue. Matt Damon entered the film industry in 2016 with the debut of “Jason Bourne.“
Stephen Colbert, the presenter of The Late Show, inquired about the potential involvement of Matt Damon in the next installment of the Bourne movie franchise.
If he had been interrogated, he likely would have revealed the information. Despite this, the actor seemed enthusiastic about his role in the picture and showered new Bourne director Edward Berger with compliments. The 2022 Netflix version of “All Quiet on the Western Front” was Berger’s breakout film; it received nine Oscar nominations, including best picture, and went on to win three further Oscars, including foreign feature.
Damon mentioned a superb filmmaker by the name of Edward Berger. He is great, and he mentioned having an idea for Bourne; the picture “All Quiet on the Western Front” is also great. So he’s already hard at work on it, and I’d love to team up with him. Listen, I am really hoping this works because I am anxious to find out.

“Someone needs to take over the franchise at some point,” Damon remarked of the brand. “I’m showing no signs of youth.”
The next Bourne picture is still in its early stages of production, according to sources who spoke with Variety in November.
Any return to the Bourne series is far off in the future, they underscored. Nobody knew whether Damon or Renner (or both) would be returning, as the film didn’t have a screenplay or a screenwriter connected to it.
If the new Bourne film is successful, Berger will be the latest director to join an esteemed group that includes Doug Liman (“The Bourne Identity” from 2002), Paul Greengrass (“The Bourne Supremacy” from 2004), Tony Gilroy (“The Bourne Legacy” from 2007), and others.
